California Christmas

Friday, 1 January 2010, 10:12pm

California Christmas. Charlie and I were able to take a few days off and drive to California to visit my family. Since we drove we were able to bring along Jake who enjoyed meeting AJ our eleven year old boxer. While in California we were able to visit with a few friends and drive to Lake Berryessa, Napa, and San Francisco. My dad cooked some amazing meals and shared some new recipes. My mom has lost a lot of weight and looks fantastic. My sisters introduced me to some really cool iPhone cases and apps. It is always fun to visit the family.

Flying Over Salt Lake at Night

Thursday, 5 November 2009, 5:00am

A few weeks ago we were able to go flying with some friends. Our friend Mark is a pilot and has access to airplanes. We decided to go flying and also grab some dinner by flying to the Ogden Airport and have dinner at Rickenbacker’s Bistro & Restaurant. We were able to fly in, park the airplane outside the restaurant and walk in. It was really fun. It reminds me of growing up and my grandmother would fly into the old NutTree Airport in Vacaville. I took about 1500 pictures and most of them were damaged because my CF card became corrupted. Here are some pictures that survived the flight.

I think this is a really cool photograph of us landing at the Salt Lake International Airport. Our little Cessna airplane uses the same runway as the huge jetliners that come and go from the airport. After flying over and seeing some of the other airports in Utah, the Salt Lake airport looked like the Vegas Strip will all the lights.

We were able to circle over Salt Lake a few times. I was able to get some good pictures of the Salt Lake Temple all lit up. I was actually trying to get some shots of the City Creek Project. You can see Tower 1 on Block 76 all lit up and some of the other buildings that are rising in downtown Salt Lake. It looked really beautiful at night. It was also much better in person. Eventually my photographs will catch up.

Jackson Wyoming Trip

Sunday, 1 November 2009, 8:00am

A few weeks ago we took a trip up to Jackson, Wyoming. It was a fun trip and we were able to get away from the hot summer of Salt Lake and enjoy the cooler weather of the mountains.

We went Kayaking on Jenny Lake and I took a video with my iPhone. I need to start taking some more videos and posting them online. I figured I could hit two birds with one stone and posted the video to Facebook.

The trip was really fun. Mark and Jeff came along and we stayed at the Terra Hotel just outside of Jackson. We were able to spend some time in the city and get a few drinks at the Million Dollar Cowboy. Charlie picked up a shirt and a hoodie. We took the tram to the top of the mountains and were able to get some great views of the valley below. Jackson is a fantastic weekend getaway that is really close and offers lots of attractions. Maybe next time we’ll get to do some horseback riding or go further into the park.

Some black and white photographs that I took of the mountains. Most of them were edited with a red-filter which really makes the mountains and the clouds punch. I need to double check my settings, but it appears that I probably had my ISO setting too high because some of the pictures look like they have too much grain.

Jake

Saturday, 31 October 2009, 5:45pm

Jake! He is a wonderful dog. A few months ago he had a skin infection that caused his hair not to grow and he was becoming pretty bare on his backside. Luckily our veterinarian was able to prescribe a good medicine and within four weeks Jake was starting to look normal again. I have a few pictures of when he was sick, but he looks much better now and I though I would take and share a few photographs. He is over two years old now and I’ve grown to love him. We’ll occasionally buy him a toy so he can have fun. Jake loves the toys the have a squeaker. You can see the remains of one of his toys in the background of the bottom picture.

Remodel: Putting It Together

Sunday, 25 October 2009, 7:45pm

It has been a while since our remodel project was deemed complete for the year. It would probably better be called a “phase” of the master remodel plan. We purchased a wonderful dining set that has some really comfortable swivel and non-swivel chairs. They are made out of metal and held up really well under the weather that was experienced so far.

We also finally put together the Outdoor Heating Lamps and got them functioning to generate some nice warmth for the fall weather and upcoming winter. We have two of them and unfortunately one of them needs some minor repairs before it will work. They are quite stylish and really affordable. We purchased them at Costco during the summer time.

The office finally received its own deck. This was one of the last elements to be installed and the workmanship is very good. There is enough space to place a chair and enjoy the fall weather or let the dog out in the chilly mornings without really having to leave the house. The lamps provide excellent light and this deck really is the start of the second phase of the project that we may get to next summer.

Enjoy the photographs! I took them with my Nikon D300 and a Nikon 14-24mm f/2.8G ED wide angle lens with a SB-800 AF Speedlight flash. I was using a corrupted 32GB flash card that has since been replaced, but many of the pictures I took were damaged.

Molten Chocolate Ebelskivers

Sunday, 11 October 2009, 10:17pm

Molten Chocolate Ebelskivers! Charlie made dinner tonight and it was delicious. He made an oven roast with lots of vegetables and a super tasty sauce using his new pots and pans. He also got all the ingredients together and made some ebelskivers for dessert. They are like doughnut holes but with a filling. Normally we make a cinnamon brown sugar ebelskiver for breakfast and Charlie took it to the next level with some Molten Chocolate ebelskivers tonight.

I decided to take a few pictures. Please enjoy and maybe we’ll have you over sometime soon for some ebelskivers.

Detailing the Truck

Wednesday, 23 September 2009, 9:46pm

I got the truck detailed today and I am really happy with how it turned out. The truck got to send the day at the “Spa”. Or at least that is what I like to call it. The complete detail includes shampooing the carpet and a nice coat of wax. The tires are all nice and shinny and the chrome all polished up!

I just recently learned about the photographer Chase Jarvis and have really taken a liking to the idea of “the best camera is the one that’s with you”. I watched a presentation he gave in regard to being creative and it really motivated me to be more creative. You should check out his website and blog.

Here is the photograph taken with my trusty iPhone.

Remodel: Gate Structure

Monday, 31 August 2009, 6:00am

We were able to have the backyard ready for some fourth of July festivities. We finally had the gate structure to the pergola area built and installed. It was not stained yet, but we were able to installed the hardware. Charlie had spent some time hunting for the right hardware and accessories to put on the gate structure door. Once they were installed, they really made the gate look good.

Remodel: Furnishing the Backyard

Sunday, 30 August 2009, 6:00am

After the stain, paint and concrete all had a chance to cure and set, we unboxed the furniture and accessories that were sitting in the house. It was a very happy day when we decided to move everything outside and try it out. Unfortunately, the gate structures and other elements were not in place, and we actually moved the furniture back to the garage every night after we were done using it. We got the ceiling fans installed and brought some of the plants out to enjoy the newly finished backyard.

These pictures were taken on Sunday, 28 June 2009.

Remodel: Lighting & Stain

Saturday, 29 August 2009, 6:00am

After the house was completely painted and all the concrete placed, we unboxed the lighting fixtures. We had purchased them a few weeks prior and they had arrived and sat in the house for a few more weeks. The light fixtures really look great on the house and add so much detail. We also got a few matching lights for the side of the house and also for the porch off of the office.

We also selected the stain for the back pergola and I actually thought it was too dark. However, once the pergola was stained. It looked really good. The color of the house and the wood structure really came together and made for a complete design.

These pictures were taken on the 25th of June 2009:
