The second photograph that I submitted for my portrait assignment was one of my niece Keilani. She has a wonderful personality and loves the camera. Every time that I pull out the camera she gets a little shy but then really loves the attention and shows her great smile.
I like this photograph because the sun is behind Keilani and there is a great reflection coming off the house and probably some other objects behind me. You can see the different catch lights in her eyes. Her smile and the theme of the color pink is very obvious. The pink goggles, the pink shirt, the pink lips and the slightly pink skin really bring that theme through.

Portrait: Jake

A few weeks ago my photography class had an assignment to do different portrait shots. We typically have to submit two photographs and one of the photographs I submitted was of my dog Jake. He’s a wonderful and obedient Yellow Lab. While this isn’t one of the best photographs that I have taken of Jake, it is one that I submitted for my assignment.

Proposition 8 Protest
Saturday, 8 November 2008, 5:33 pm
There has been a lot of discussion about the presidential elections and also proposition 8 in California that bans same sex marriage. Thursday night when I was out having some drinks with some friends, I became aware of a protest that was planned at Temple Square here in Salt Lake City. Temple Square is the headquarters of the Mormon Church.
I literally work a block away from where the protest was planned to take place. My photography class is currently studying Photojournalism and I figured it would be a great experience to photograph a protest in my own town.
The whole thing was really well planned out and thousands of people showed up with signs, shirts and megaphones. It was amazing to watch a sea of people flood the streets and protest outside of the LDS Church Office Building. I brought my camera and took a few pictures and thought I would share some of them.
It was amazing to see so many people come out and protest. There were also people there who were supporting Prop 8. They had signs and posters that said the people had already spoken on the issue and it was fascinating to watch this peaceful protest.

Macro Photography
Sunday, 26 October 2008, 8:30 am
Last week I had another assignment due for my photography class. The assignment was to capture different images very close up or even with a macro lens. Unfortunately I don’t own a macro lens yet but I did rent one for a few days to give it a try and to have some fun taking pictures.
I ran into other obstacles with this assignment. The weather has been clear but very cold and many of the flowers that I love to photograph are almost dead because it has been freezing every night.
Hope that you enjoy the photographs.

Yellowstone Lake
Friday, 17 October 2008, 5:23 pm
On our last day in the park we drove by Yellowstone lake on our way to the Southern entrance to Yellowstone National Park. The lake was beautiful and is very large. The park guide stated that the lake is the largest mountain lake in North America. The photographs were cropped to really dramatize the shoreline and the mountains behind the trees.

Jenny Lake

One of the lakes at the foot of the Teton Mountains is called Jenny Lake. The lake has a trail the follows the eastern shore. I took several photographs at the south shore and the ones I am sharing are from the northern shore. One was taken up on a small hill and the other was taken down near the water.
